New York oh New York,
Getting all set for my 7th NYC Marathon, picked up my race number and a ton of goodies at the Javitts Centre. Forgot to mention that i also bought some nice memorabilia such as a hat, long sleeve running shirt, wind breaker, gloves etc all with the 2012 New York City Marathon inscription. I simply love hat stuff, cant help it. Walking back from the Javitts to Grand Central I made a call to my sis Wanda, also a runner and we rendez voused at Naples 45 at Grand Central. She ordered a Pelligrino and I a chardonnay, what the heck 48 hours to go and with loads of water it should not matter, moreover I do know the course very well. At 5PM my dear friend Chuck left a voice message including a BTW oh Cor the marathon is cancelled. Knowing Chuckles I thought it was a joke. In the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of ABC News and .... indeed there was the confirmation. The ultimate race for marathon runners was cancelled. Damn. Wanda changed her Pelligrino into Chardonnay and I changed my chardonnay for Cosmopolitans. I think i had about 6 of these suckers than headed to Mamaroneck I gave about 5 interviews to runners, a traincoductor and a frustrated housewife from Rye. Sandy caused a huge mess: a real one for the millions of people who were highly impacted, thousands of runners with hopes and dreams and me...the ultimate veteran looking for a grand old time in New York running through the burroughs and getting a 7th medal. In the end canceling this event was the right thing to do and I am committed to run in 2013 and break my 2011 time and fundraising record for Fred Team and assure that sis Wanda will be at the start and finish!.
