New York Marathon 2013

Finally on the very last day before the closing I enrolled in the 2013 version of the NY Marathon. After the great deception in 2012. Sandy caused the cancellation on Friday 5PM prior to a start on Sunday. The NYRRC provide for all " last years" runners a guaranteed entrance which expired yesterday. It was a close call for me and the reason was hesitation, I am not yet in the groove.

Despite my weekly kilometers which varies now between 25 and 50 K per week, 50 being the exception, and I live right on Rio's beach Barra Do Tijuca which is truly a runners paradise. Sunny, around 22-25 degrees and the are always many people walking, running and on the beach it's one sporting galore. Yet I am still hesitant, some little pain here, some there, tired etc. 42K is still an intimidating and heck of a distance  even after ten finishes. So how am I going to change my mindset?

Start following some training schedules and I have a few, think about the motivational side, run more with music, playlist Fred's Team 2013 is WIP, I leave some classic stuff which I always take with me and some recent music. Given my Rio mission I will add a few Bossa Nova and Samba songs for the nice rhythms or simply dreaming away when logging those long runs. Of course I will be an active fundraiser with Fred's Team again to support Memorial Sloan Kettering, it will be my fifth year with them and I hope to collect $10,000. Lose a few more kilos and start focussing on the event already. I will probably also adept increasingly the Chi-Running style. I started this last year and I feel certainly some benefits, the trick is that I need to remind me about this technique over and over again.

I am far from being ready but if I deploy some of the above my mindset start to shift, the training is getting better and I will have the end result in mind. I think it will be a good year with a great NYC Marathon!
