Thanksgiving, is a U.S. federal holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, dates to 1863 and commemorates the 1621 harvest festival shared by 52 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Centered on giving thanks, the holiday features a traditional dinner often consists of foods associated with New England harvest celebrations: turkey, potatoes, squash, corn, green beans, cranberries, and pumpkin pie, but has expanded over the years to include specialties from other regions of the United States.
The
Dubois family has celebrated Thanksgiving since 1987, when we moved to New York
with 3 families (Dikkers-Van der Kaaij-Dubois). Since the founding families
moved back to Europe we continue our tradition in Bergen, the Netherlands.
Nowadays a bunch of 35, children, grandchildren and a few friends. This year,
due to travel limitations, we’re keeping the tradition alive in Villars,
creating new memories with friends, turkey, wine and holiday warmth!
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, gratitude and a
nice dining experience.
Thanksgiving is a time to express gratitude for the
blessings, relationships, and experiences that enrich our lives. A heartfelt
and graceful speech embodies this spirit, reminding us to focus on the positive
and cherish what truly matters.
Reflecting on the essence of this year's participants,
"The Foreigners in Villars," gratitude was centered on enjoying good
health for themselves and their loved ones, the privilege of living in such a
breathtaking area, the joy of new friendships, and embracing the spirit of Carpe
Diem!
With turkey, stuffing, Brussels sprouts, and a delightful
surprise—an exquisite wine from Spain—2024 Thanksgiving became yet another
unforgettable celebration. Thank you to everyone who made it special!
